Refrigerator Repair: How to Identify Common Causes of Refrigerator Noise

Is your refrigerator keeping you up at night with its various moans and groans? When you need immediate relief from your noisy refrigerator, there are a few steps you can take. Follow these helpful tips from your local appliance repair shop:

  • Locate the source of the noise–Is the noise coming from the inside of the freezer, or the outside back of the refrigerator? Determining what area the noise is coming from will help you narrow down the possible components that might be causing the sound.
  • Troubleshoot–There are only a handful of parts in a refrigerator that typically cause noise. Once you have narrowed down the general location of the sound, you can begin troubleshooting various components to try to resolve the issue. While some issues can easily be fixed with minimal effort, others will require that you call in a professional who is trained in refrigeration repair.

Noise Inside the Freezer

Noise originating inside the freezer can typically be attributed to the evaporator fan, which runs whenever the unit is actively cooling. If you notice a chirping, squealing, or groaning sound that comes and goes (rather than being steady), it may be an issue with the fan motor. To find out for sure, open the freezer door and hold down the light/fan switch if there is one. If the sound gets louder with the door open, you can be pretty sure that the fan is the cause. Unfortunately, there is no way to repair the evaporator fan motor–you must replace the part in order to resolve the issue.

Noise from the Back of the Refrigerator

Most noises that you notice will come from the back of the refrigerator, where most of the moving parts are located. If you have a self-defrosting unit, the first place you will want to check is the condenser fan. The condenser fan is located on the back of the refrigerator, often behind a thin panel. The fan can occasionally accumulate a buildup of lint and other debris, causing a buzzing or clicking noise. You can try to resolve the problem by removing the thin cover to access the fan, and then cleaning the fan of any debris using a soft bristled brush (old toothbrushes are great for this!). Once the fan is clear of dust or other materials, replace
the cover and plug the refrigerator back in. If you still have noise coming from the condenser fan after cleaning it, you may have to replace the part with the help of an appliance repair company.

If your refrigerator is making a rumbling, or purring noise from the back, it may indicate a problem with your compressor. The compressor is located in a football-sized case on the back of the refrigerator, near the bottom of the unit, and usually contains either black or copper tubes with a variety of colored wires. The compressor is typically a sealed unit, so it can not be replaced by a do-it-yourselfer. If you are able to isolate the problem to the compressor, you will need to contact a refrigerator repair technician to complete the job.

Noise from the Bottom of the Refrigerator

If you have noise emanating from the bottom of your refrigerator, it is likely coming from one of two places. The first, and easiest to resolve, is rattling from a loose drain pan. To fix this issue, simply tape the pan securely in place to stop the noise. If that doesn’t work, you may have an issue with the defrost timer. The defrost timer is located in the front of the unit, behind the kickplate. This part is actually a heating element located on the evaporator coil and can not be repaired. If you are experiencing trouble with the defrost timer, you may also notice a buildup of frost in your refrigerator or freezer. To have this component replaced, you should contact an experienced professional for installation of the refrigerator repair part.

When to Contact the Professionals

If you complete the above steps and still can’t determine where the problem is coming from, or if you need to replace a complicated part such as the compressor or defrost timer, you should contact your
local appliance repair service. In addition to providing you with thorough troubleshooting and safe, reliable repairs, most refrigerator repair technicians also offer routine maintenance, which can help you avoid problems down the road. With their help, you’ll be able to sleep soundly without being interrupted by strange kitchen noises well into the future.

Turn to Your Local Auto Body Shop for One-Stop Service and Repairs After a Car Accident

Having a collision or fender-bender is a traumatic experience, but getting your car back in good driving condition doesn’t have to be if you find the right auto body repair shop to work on your vehicle. Look for one that offers a range of services so that you can get everything–from scratched paint to a broken windshield–dealt with in the same place.

In a best-case scenario, both you and your car would be able to walk away from an accident without a scratch. However, even in the most minor of collisions, it’s possible for some damage to occur. If you’ve been involved in a collision and notice that there is damage to the car or to the way it drives, take it to an auto body and repair shop as soon as possible. The experts there will be able to fix any dents, scratches, or other exterior issues, and make sure nothing else is wrong with the frame or structure of the car. A professional body shop will be able to address all of these problems from under the same roof. This means that you don’t have to coordinate getting your car all over the city, and you’ll know that your vehicle is getting expert, comprehensive care.

A body shop professional will have seen all manner of collision-related dents, scratches, and cracks in his or her time. Using the latest tools and technology, your repair expert will be able to evaluate the extent of the damage, perform the necessary repairs, and get your car back to you as quickly as possible. Paintless dent repair is one of the most exciting innovations in the auto body industry and can be a major aid if you have an unsightly dent post-collision. This technique involves fixing the dent from inside the body panel of the car, so the technicians never even touch the paint on the outside. This new dent repair method eliminates the previously necessary step of repainting the dented area, meaning that it takes less time and costs you less money to have the work done. Most body repair shops will also be able to handle other issues, such as auto glass replacement, bumper repair, and paint touch-ups. No matter what you need to have done, professional auto body shops will be able to do the job quickly and efficiently, and you won’t have to worry about going to five different locations to get your car back in tip-top shape.

While car body repair shops provide expert service for exterior issues, they can also handle larger collision repair tasks as well. For example, your car’s frame is designed to react in a specific way if it experiences an impact so that you, and anyone else inside the vehicle, are protected as much as possible. Once that frame changes shape, though, the car is often not drivable, and, even if it is, the frame is in no shape to protect anyone in the event of a future accident. The same professionals who can fix any dents or scratches caused by a collision, though, will also be able to straighten out your car’s frame if necessary. Using specialized machinery, these experts will realign the frame of your car, making it both roadworthy and compliant with current safety standards. Whether you need a frame realignment, or you need to have some part of your car’s body totally replaced after an accident, your auto body repairer will be able to handle the repair or auto glass replacement, and any accompanying work that may be involved. Your car will come out of the repair process looking great, driving well, and running safely, and the only thing you will have had to do is drop it off!

Regardless of scale, car accidents or collisions are sure to leave you shaken. When you’re in such a state, the last thing you want to deal with is figuring out how to coordinate any necessary car repairs. Body shops that offer comprehensive auto body repair services take that worry off your mind. They are your one-stop-shop for all of your post-collision auto body repair needs–let them worry about the work so that you can get on with the rest of your life.

Professional Energy Audits Are the Key to a More Energy-Efficient Home!

Want to make your home more energy efficient? Want to save money on your heating, cooling, and electrical bills? Then hire the pros for an energy audit and you’ll learn where your home can become more energy efficient today!

Energy efficiency is a favorite buzzword in the media these days, and more and more homeowners are realizing that they may be paying more than necessary for their heating, cooling, electricity, and even water. That’s because energy can be leaking out of your home, wasting your hard earned money. But even when you’ve noticed high heating or electric bills, it can be hard to know where to start with repairs and upgrades: how do you know where your home is inefficient? By having a professional energy audit performed! An energy audit is a non-invasive evaluation of your property during which a skilled expert looks for places your home might be wasting energy, helping you pinpoint areas of inefficiency and recommending cost-effective upgrades to help you save big bucks in the long run!

Energy auditing services are available for both homes and commercial properties, so regardless of whether you’re a home or business owner, they can help you save. Rather than focusing on a single element or section of your property, an energy audit will take a more holistic approach: by evaluating your entire building, your energy auditors can locate any and all areas that could benefit from an energy-efficiency upgrade. Issues as minor as energy-guzzling incandescent lightbulbs or as major as an inefficient furnace will all be identified.

By focusing on your current energy costs as well as inspecting your home for leaks, inefficiencies, and wasted energy, energy audits can help you identify the most cost-effective improvements for your home. The simple truth is that replacing all of your windows, upgrading your heating and air conditioning units, and putting on a new roof can all help you save on energy costs–but doing all three will likely cost more than you will ever recoup in reduced energy bills. On the other hand, affordable improvements like switching to CFL lightbulbs or LED lighting can make a big difference in your energy bills without a large initial investment. And for major energy sinks like a drafty garage door or an ancient refrigerator, often the cost of the upgrade will be earned back in energy savings. Your energy auditors can provide you with not only a detailed list of deficiencies when it comes to your home’s energy efficiency, but they can also make recommendations about which problems it really makes sense to repair.

So if you’re ready to schedule your residential or commercial energy audit, contact your local professional today. They can get you on the road to reduced energy waste, usage, and bills!

From Carpet Installation to Hardwood Installation, Ensure You Get the Right Floor for Your Needs

Not all flooring options are created equal. From hardwood installation to carpet installation, different flooring is better for different areas of your home, so be certain to consult your local pros on which floors are best for your needs.

When you’re renovating your home or looking to upgrade your floors, there’s a lot more to consider than just how you want your flooring to look. In addition to appearance, you’ll need to evaluate issues like durability, resilience, and sturdiness. Choosing the right floors for your space can help ensure they look better, longer. That’s because some flooring materials are simply better suited for different applications. Just like you wouldn’t put an upholstered sofa in a kid’s bathroom where it will get splashed and soaked, it doesn’t make sense to put delicate carpeting in a high traffic hallway or expensive hardwood in a laundry room. By consulting with your local flooring specialists, you can help make certain that you’re not only getting a top-quality flooring product, but that you’re also getting the right floors for your specific needs!

Hardwood Flooring Installation

Hardwood floors are typically very durable and can stand up to years of use and abuse. Perhaps the best benefit of hardwood flooring is that if it ever becomes scratched, dull, or lackluster, refinishing your floors can get them looking like new again–without the high cost of replacing your floors. However, hardwood installation is not recommended for high moisture situations, as water can cause your floors to buckle and warp. That means hardwood flooring can be a great choice in dining rooms, living rooms, and even kitchens but should not be used in bathrooms or laundry rooms.

Carpet Installation

Plush and luxurious, carpeting can add warmth and softness to just about any room of your home. Different types of carpeting can have differing abilities to withstand high traffic, so you’ll want to consider the durability of a plush carpet vs. a Berber carpet before you make your selection. Carpet installation also is not typically a good idea for bathrooms, dining rooms, or kitchens because it is harder to clean than a hard floor.

Linoleum and Laminate Installation

Extremely sturdy and resilient, linoleum and laminate are both able to take wear and tear day in and day out. Linoleum flooring, as well as laminate installation, offers water-resistant performance that makes it ideal for rooms as diverse as dining rooms and laundry rooms. Prized for their versatility, durability, and huge range of style options, laminate and linoleum may be the right choice for your home.

So if you’re considering new flooring options for your home, make certain you do your homework! Visit your local flooring specialist to ensure you get the floors that are right for your specific needs.

Avoid Frustration and Save Money with Professional Appliance Repair Services

When the home appliances we use every day aren’t working right, it can be a major inconvenience. Instead of throwing in the towel (or throwing out the fridge), turn to appliance repair experts to fix the problem for a fraction of the cost of replacing the unit.

The whole point of having appliances like refrigerators, dryers, and dishwashers is to make our busy lives a little easier. So, when those items aren’t functioning optimally, or have stopped working altogether, it can cause a huge disturbance in your life and your daily routine. It can be tempting, in this situation, to cut your losses and get rid of a malfunctioning appliance at the first sign of major trouble. However, it is often more cost-effective to make the necessary stove, oven, or washer repairs instead of shelling out for a new machine. Appliance repair professionals can get your appliance back up and running for far less than it would cost to replace it, which means that you can get back to your normal life without paying an arm and a leg to make it happen.

Modern kitchens are full of appliances that most of us use every day. Stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers are items that have become essential to cooking, storing food, and cleaning up after meals. If any one of those appliances isn’t working properly, the whole system you have in place to feed your family stops working, which can cause incredible stress for everyone involved. However, a timely stove or refrigerator repair can help get you and your family back on track in no time. Experts do this type of work all the time and will be able to take care of whatever you need to have done, from a routine oven fix-up to an intricate dishwasher repair job.

While it would be preferable to have a home full of appliances that work all the time, that’s simply not possible. An appliance, just like any machine, breaks down sometimes. However, the cost–both in money and in energy–of getting a professional, well-executed repair done is far less than the cost of buying and installing a new appliance. Having an expert come in and make a washer repair, for example, is much easier than switching out machines, and will cost you much less at the same time. Plus, if fixing the appliance won’t take care of the problem, your appliance repair professional will be able to let you know. That way you know you at least considered the option of, say, an oven repair, before going through the cost and trouble of getting a new one.

Whether you need a stove, dishwasher, or dryer repair done, repair professionals will be able to get your machine running again so that the disruption to your life is minimal. Repair work is far less costly than replacing an appliance altogether, so the disruption to your wallet is minimal, too. If you’re having trouble with an appliance, turn to appliance repair as a cost-, time-, and energy-effective solution.

Mobile Electronics Can Promote Safer Driving! Call Your Local Car Audio Shop Today!

We all know that driving is one of the most dangerous things that people do on a day-to-day basis, but judging from the bad driving habits we see on the road, we always seem to forget it. Now, there are mobile electronics available that can help drivers stay focused, stay on track, and stay safe. Mobile electronics–they’re more than just luxuries!

Everyone knows about the great style and convenience that device integration, vehicle accessories, and mobile electronic installations can bring to a car, truck, boat, or other vehicle, but many people don’t realize that many of these devices go beyond the frivolous. They can actually promote and improve road safety for drivers and passengers, whether you’re driving across a continent or across town. Call your local mobile electronics shop today, and learn about the services they offer and how they can help keep you safe!

Just some of the safety advantages of car electronics include:

Reducing distraction – Countless accidents are caused every day because drivers are busy fidgeting with their music or driving with one hand while paying too much attention to a cell phone conversation. iPod integration can make controlling music as simple as switching the channel on the radio. Bluetooth integration allows for hands-free telephone conversation, so drivers never have to miss a call or compromise their safety.

Deterring criminalsCar alarms may seem like more of a security feature than a safety feature, but consider this scenario–you’re driving across the country, and you stop at a rest area at night. If someone steals your car, you’re stranded in a strange place, which can put you in any number of potentially unsafe situations. A car alarm can help reduce the risk of car theft. It’s a sad fact, but most vehicles that are stolen are never recovered.

Monitoring speed – Radar detectors do more than just alert the driver when there is law enforcement nearby. They also can serve as a periodic reminder to choose to drive at a reasonable speed while adhering to all local laws.

Directions for the directionally impaired – On board navigation systems are an excellent way to not only ensure that drivers don’t wind up in dangerous areas. They also help improve road safety by giving drivers visual and vocal directional prompts, so there will never be a reason to suddenly cut across many lanes of traffic in order to reach the correct exit or turn.

These advantages are just some of the ways that mobile electronics can help improve the safety of everyone on the road, from drivers to passengers to pedestrians. Call your local mobile electronics shop today to learn more about the options available when you purchase any of these great products.
